Art that Welcomes You In

At The Parkside Hotel & Spa, art is more than decoration, it's part of the experience. Thoughtfully curated to complement our contemporary West Coast aesthetic, our collection showcases the talent of local artists and reflects the natural beauty and creative spirit of our region.

We intentionally avoid a cookie-cutter approach, choosing each piece for its individuality and how it contributes to a sense of place. From bold focal points to subtle accents, the art throughout our spaces is as diverse and welcoming as the guests we host.

Some of our featured artists include:

Mike Lathrop

Mike has always felt the impact of the landscapes that surround him, and enjoys exploring the outdoors on Vancouver Island. In his paintings, he captures his feeling of a moment in nature; and attempts to document the motion, the colour, the light, and the overall experience of taking in our natural environment.

Born and raised in Calgary, Mike Lathrop moved to Victoria to earn a degree in Visual Arts from the University of Victoria from 1990-94. After working in graphic design, motion graphics video, and internet programming in Vancouver, he returned to Victoria in 2006, and then to painting in 2016.

Mike lives with his spouse and two children in Victoria, BC. He works in his home studio, and sells original paintings and limited edition giclée prints.

Haute Creations

Our roots in Victoria, British Columbia, run deep. Inspired by the region's rich artistic heritage and collaborative spirit, we've grown to form a broad network of professional and community partnerships across Canada. Each canvas is produced responsibly in our Canadian production house, from hand-built domestic pine frames to archival inks, ensuring exceptional quality control. We see ourselves as part of the local communities, not separate from it, and reinforce this connection by donating a portion of our proceeds directly back into local initiatives.

Alicia Gilmour

Based on Vancouver Island, Alicia draws inspiration from the natural wild of the west coast. She combines her skills as a wood worker and designer, with a sublime style of painting, and salvages timber and western red cedar to create a style of art that truly captures the spirit of the wild.

Andrea England

Andrea England, sailor, adventurer, teacher and artist explored life and art on the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and lately, specifically, here on the Salish Sea. She put life into every painting, letting the colours flow from her brush, in their water, onto her paper, as the waves, not always gently, rocked Sailing Vessel Island Prism, Andrea's floating studio. I was lucky to be her fellow sailor, adventurer and husband. We got married on this old boat in Auckland Harbour, New Zealand.

Alas, Andrea is gone now, caught by Cancer. She left behind the Andrea England Art Studio which she had carefully built from scratch into a vibrant Studio with many successful divisions. There are the very informative art courses, including the big free book on getting started in watercolours. It's never too late or too early to put your life on an artist's brush. Andrea also has a successful course on travel sketching. I have over 2 meters of Andrea's sketch books on the shelf with so many lovely personal memories of our time together. The art courses are still available and will always be available.

We invite you to take a moment during your stay to explore the artwork throughout the hotel. Each piece has been carefully chosen not only to reflect our surroundings, but to celebrate the creativity of local artists. Whether it's a bold statement or a quiet detail, there's a story waiting to be discovered around every corner.
