Global Home

On September 30, Canada observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day dedicated to honouring survivors of residential schools and remembering the children who never returned home. At The Parkside Hotel & Spa, we recognize this day as an opportunity to reflect, learn and take meaningful action toward reconciliation.

Our Commitment to Indigenous Communities

Supporting Indigenous communities goes beyond acknowledgment—it requires sustained action and genuine partnership.

Since 2024, a portion of our Climate Contribution fee has been directed to the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada, ensuring every guest's stay contributes to meaningful support for Indigenous communities across the nation. This initiative demonstrates our commitment to creating a positive impact through responsible tourism practices.

Exploring Victoria's Indigenous Heritage

We believe education is fundamental to reconciliation. Our complimentary Happy Trails Support Indigenous map guides guests to explore Victoria's rich Indigenous heritage with respect and understanding, connecting visitors to the deep cultural history of these traditional territories. Our team participates in cultural sensitivity training led by Indigenous educators, helping us better serve Indigenous guests and understand the ongoing impacts of colonization.

Moving Forward Together

This National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we continue our ongoing commitment to Indigenous communities. True reconciliation requires sustained action; a commitment we carry forward every day of the year.

We encourage our guests and community members to engage in meaningful reflection, support Indigenous-owned businesses, and commit to being allies in the path toward healing and reconciliation.

Together, we can remember the past while building a more inclusive future. Learn more about our initiatives here.

We acknowledge and respect the ləkʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory The Parkside Hotel & Spa stands, and the Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱ SÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
