Global Home

Summer is in full swing, and warm weather and sunshine mean one thing: It’s time to hit the beach! Thankfully, our fair city is a coastal gem surrounded by the ocean. Not to mention that the city is home to many lovely lakes perfect for a summer swim. So locals and visitors alike are spoiled for choice when it comes to finding sun and sand at our beaches in Victoria, BC. Below are some of our favorite sandy stretches from around the city.

Gonzales Beach

A truly lovely beach located near a quaint residential area, Gonzales Beach is one of our favorite summer spots for a little R&R. While here, you’ll enjoy awe-inspiring views of the Olympic Mountains across the Juan de Fuca Strait. You’ll also have ample space to bring a picnic basket and indulge in a little al fresco dining while you enjoy the sunshine. Gonzales Beach is a popular spot for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and fishing.

Thetis Lake Regional Park

The oceanside beaches in Victoria can be a bit chilly for swimming, even in the warmer summer months. So if you’re looking for more than a refreshing splash, head to Thetis Lake. The park actually consists of two lakes, Upper and Lower Thetis, and each is usually the perfect temperature for a nice refreshing swim. The park surrounding the lakes is also legendarily beautiful, with plenty of hiking trails and picnic areas to enjoy.

Cordova Bay Beach

Cordova Bay Beach is widely regarded as one of the most beautifully picturesque beaches in the metro — and for good reason. The fine sand of the beach seems to stretch on forever in each direction, making it perfect for a stroll, soaking up a tan or even dipping your toes in the water. In fact, Cordova Bay Beach is so postcard-perfect, many weddings are held here. The scenery and water make for the perfect backdrop for an “I do.”

Willows Beach

Willows Beach is often mentioned in the same breath as Gonzales Beach, and for many of the same reasons. It’s scenic, sunny, family-friendly and ideal for a wide variety of summer activities. A large and shady green area is the perfect spot for a picnic, and a dedicated walking path runs along the water, making it a great destination for getting in your steps. A nearby water-sports rental service has paddle boards available, and there’s even a charming tea room nearby.

Ross Bay Pebbles Beach

Sometimes you just want to go to the beach, watch the water and let your mind wander. Maybe bring a journal or a painter’s set. If you’re looking for a nice spot for a little solo reflection, Ross Bay is where you should make your pilgrimage. As you might guess from the name, the beach is a bit rockier than most, making it a less-than-ideal swimming spot. But the breathtaking beauty and serenity of this tranquil hideaway simply can’t be denied.
