It begins at the 100-metre Switch Bridge, then follows along the Saanich Inlet, offering stunning views of the ocean. There are plenty of benches and clearing areas along the way, making it a great spot for a leisurely stroll, or even a picnic.

Mount Douglas Park

If you’re looking for something a bit more challenging, Mount Doug Park is the perfect spot. This trail is just over six kilometres long and affords hikers stunning views of Haro Strait to the east, north and west through Saanich, and downtown to the south. There are several steep sections that may prove tougher for novices, but the views you’ll experience make the climb more than worth it.

East Sooke Regional Park 
 

A Rocky Coast Line

This lush green park is a stunning stop for anyone who needs a bit of sunshine and fresh air. East Sooke offers a variety of trails, ranging from “no sweat” to uphill. The trails take you through lush forests and along the rugged coastline, offering visitors stunning views of the ocean and the Olympic Mountains.

Galloping Goose Regional Trail


At 55 kilometres, Galloping Goose is perfect for runners, cyclists and hikers alike. Don’t be intimidated by the length, though — this trail is also extremely approachable, with several points of entry and egress along its length. Galloping Goose follows the old Canadian Pacific Railway line and offers breathtaking vistas of rural Victoria and the Juan de Fuca Strait.

Kinsol Trestle Bridge Trail

Speaking of railway lines, the 3km round-trip Kinsol Trestle Bridge Trail incorporates several special features certain to appeal to train enthusiasts. In its initial stretches, it’s an easy, level hike with lots of lovely scenery. However, as you approach the terminus, you’ll have an opportunity to stroll over one of the world’s tallest free-standing wooden trestle bridges. It’s an incredible finish to a fantastic adventure.

Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park 
 

A Lake With Trees Around It

This inviting park is a great spot for family hikes. You’ll have your pick of several simple trails that wind through serene green space, as well as a chance to spot a variety of the area’s native wildlife. The lake is also a great spot for a little al fresco lunch, or even a dip on warmer days.
