How do you live sustainably?
For our July contest, we're asking our Living Planet Community what they do to help conserve our environment.
Check out how Parkside Living Planet Community group member Skedaddle lives sustainably:
"When we built our log home, we incorporated passive solar features. We do not have a central heating or cooling system.
The code required that we have an automatic system, so we installed cheap electric baseboard heaters, which we have never even been turned on.
We use our energy-efficient wood stove for heat, but typically we only augment the temperature of our home from about Nov 1 - Feb 28. Usually, we do not have to burn more than a cord of wood for the entire winter.
We usually wear an extra layer in winter (sweater or sweatshirt) and maintain a temperature of about 60 degrees instead of 72-plus. We have also noticed that we have less down time from colds and other illnesses by not keeping our house at a higher temperature."
