Vancouver Island Farmers' Markets
Why should you shop at a farmers' market instead of the grocery store this weekend?
'Tis the season for fresh, local fruits and vegetables - and there are markets popping up all over the island.
It's harder to shop locally during the winter, so take advantage of all the great produce available this summer.
Not only does fresh, local produce taste better, but also by buying locally you are economically supporting the farmers and saving their agricultural lands from development.
If you need anymore convincing, here is a great list of 10 reasons why you should eat local.
So instead of heading to the grocery store on a busy Saturday morning, take a leisurely drive out to Saanich and do your produce shopping at a local farm; a lot of them have fresh, homemade baked goods, jams, jellies, cheese, and other items available as well. Or, if you are stuck in town, be sure to visit the farmers' markets located in Bastion Square and on Government Street.
