Parkside Victoria Resort & Spa Announces Earth Day Extravaganza and Lights Out Party

April 08, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Victoria, BCParkside Victoria Resort & Spa, Victoria's newest resort hotel, is hosting its very first Earth Day Extravaganza on Thursday, April 22, 2010. This is a community event open to everyone looking to celebrate the Earth, nature and sustainability in a fun, educational and festive setting.

Daytime activities at Parkside will be catered towards children and families and will run from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm along with Parkside's very first Book Swap. This initiative encourages community members to bring along any books they longer want or need and discover other literary treasures while reducing consumption, saving money and getting to know other members of their community!

The afternoon of April 22, Parkside's atrium will be transformed into a family-friendly party with fun for everyone including planting activities, face painting, colouring contests, movies, story times, crafts and more.

Evening activities at Parkside begin at 7:30pm with the exciting Lights Out Party in the comfort of Parkside's Penthouse City Club Lounge by LED and candlelight.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from local academics such as Adam Bumpus from the Centre For Social Innovation and Sustainability at the Sauder School of Business, UBC, on the future of sustainability in BC and others; discover local art by Erica Messing and Catherine Gerus; sample sustainable food catered by The Landing West Coast Grill and inspired by the 100-Mile Diet featuring locally-sourced and Ocean Wise appetizers, wines by local vinters and beers from Vancouver Island breweries; enjoy jazz music by the Doug Farr Quartet; participate in Earth Day trivia challenges for a chance to win accommodation at Parkside and take a LEED® green building tour of the resort.

Throughout the month of April, Parkside is also challenging its guests, owners, visitors and the community to contribute to its donation program benefiting The Dogwood Initiative, a non-profit local organization that helps British Columbians exercise local control to create healthy and prosperous communities.
Contributions will be put to work helping to promote sustainable, community-centered solutions for lands and people across the province. Those interested can ask a Guest Services team member at the front desk.

In addition, Parkside is launching its WWF Living Planet Community and is looking to add more members to its group and find out how many Earth-friendly actions everyone can take together. Group members can help the environment and be entered to win two free nights at Parkside Victoria Resort & Spa!

Parkside's private movie theatre will also show films on a scheduled basis on Earth Day. Family movies begin at 1:00 pm. Those interested are encouraged to join in advance of the Lights Out Party for evening movie showings beginning with Plastic Planet at 5:00 pm. To reserve group seating please RSVP to Crystal Auffray at crystal.auffray@aviawest.com with group's name and potential number of attendees in the group.
